The doctor nodded silently while his gaze was stuck on the grotesque slain creature. If they hadn't come across Ariana, more than likely Adeney and Alphonse would be dead in the muck themselves.
But they were not free yet. Though he remembered that the entrance dug into the sanitarium was not far off, there was a lingering dread that he may have been turned around one too many times, and they could be lost in the putrid maze.
"We must leave. quickly."

"That's it then. Mm." Ariana snorted, regretted the inhalation and spat away the sour taste cloying at the insides of her mouth and even in this act she did not seem surprised she'd made such a remarkable shot.
The Arbalest lowered the crossbow and swapped the murderous companion into her good hand, a greyish demeanour had begun to wash over her complexion and it was clear through the flickering of her ivories she was exhaling raw pain.
"P-piece of piss... press on then..." She started to lumber in the direction that was apparently an exit.

Celeste was aware people were speaking to her, but didn't feel any desire to respond. She wanted to not be where she was anymore, that's about all she understood, so she continued wearily marching their way, looking as sullen and unfeeling as a corpse.

Alphonse: He nodded in agreement with the other two; for once things were going well-- relatively. The bickering had stopped, and they were so close to the end... There was still a residual feeling that they had left too many people behind. Consequently, there was the lingering dread of the duty to return and retrieve the other two.
It made his gut churn, but he didn't see any other way around it.
He pressed on to the end.
~ The travel back: It was surprisingly straight-forward, and the walls would be familiar to Adeney and Alphonse. The tunnel was straight, and angled at a slight incline upwards. At a certain point, they would pass another tunnelway, where the main tunnel forked. Both branches were angled oppositely, but both were generally downward, clearly, the wrong way to go.
After a short period of time, the slope of the tunnel would steepen precariously, and it would be easy to slip and fall on the incline. It was still manageable, however, with little need to crawl or utilize a handhold.
Relatively fresh air blew back, bereft of the stench of the Warrens. The exit came into view.
They were home.
--- Florence: She was quite pleased that Celeste was alive. There was a mild disappointment in the lack of information gleaned from the small trip, but in admittance, it was not as though she had notes to write her findings down on. Still, she couldn't rightly call it a personally fruitless experience.
She turned to go down the hall. "Come, and follow us. We shall depart."
The travel back: The scent of the smoke and charred swine made it easy to follow the way back. It was a matter of simple memory. It seemed that, at the level they were in, the tunnels were not so complicated. Straight-forward, simple, and somewhat spacious. There was an idle curve here and there, but nothing troubling.
After some time of travel, where they would return to the fork in the tunnels, the footprints leading upward would clearly indicate where next to go: to the Sanitarium.
