"Hm." Braund grunted as he moved toward the trap, gripping it on its underside, inspecting it. This'd be a good tool for him to hunt this troublemaker, and to use as a hunting tool. Slinging the bear trap over his left shoulder, the large man looked down toward the two beasts that had been killed with brute force, along with his eyes taking heed of the lack of an animal caught between the steel jaws of the trap. Perhaps it was fast? Perhaps it has chewed off and ate its leg...
Either way, Braund had a plan.
Sheathing his sword, the man stooped low and gripped the dog with the least amount of bodily damage done to it, wrapping one hand around its two hind leg ankles, then slinging the trap around his shoulder. Perhaps Braund could deal with the beast quickly, if he could set up a trap.

Ellie stared off into the distance as Maria asked her question, debating whether or not if they could really make it to the Hamlet from here without dying. In the end she decided against it, they needed shelter quickly, not some long ass treck back that could easily be their downfall given she couldn’t be as fast as she was in beast form.
“No... but I know a place.” Ellie spoke softly, when she heard the rustling of Braund making his entrance. Which was not a gentle one given he seemed to easily gloss over them and do whatever he was doing. It honestly dumbfounded her, and even if he didn’t attack he was still not someone she was gonna take lightly or with trust like she did for Maria.
“H...hello? What are you...?” She spoke up, her voice steady yet fearful, she was ready to bolt at a moments notice but it was obvious this man although foreboding was not going to attack them unless provoked.

Somewhere: The creature stirred. It had not cared when its host's body had been broken, nor when its heart had stopped beating. All that had done was allow it to drain the last vestiges of life from the erstwhile vessel, and feed the inevitable brood that would emerge. Now, though, a new phenomena penetrated the fleshy microcosm that had been the creature's home. Using the host's gaping wound as its egress, a thin beam of light worked its way along the parasite. The time for waiting was over. __________________________________________________________________________________________ Braund:
The stench had returned, now tinged with the odor of long-stagnant water. Whatever did this was not natural. Out of the corner of Braund's eye, he could still see the mangled hound twitching. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Maria: The man clearly knew something they didn't. Even the most experienced hunter would take pause at the scene that greeted him, and few would be this nonchalant about it. Furthermore, aside from the crossbow at his back, he had nothing in the ways of gear, not even a skinning knife. Maria cast a questioning glance to Ellie. Should they really stay to find out?

The large man spent his time meandering further into the woods, and by the time he encountered Ellie and her newest friend, he was already thinking about turning back. But then he was surprised by their appearance, unsheathing his sword halfway, before he froze and stared them down. For a moment, he held a neutral look about him, before his attention turned toward the sensation of twitches that the dog was giving out. A death rattle? Or perhaps it was still trying to cling onto life. Either way, with two innocents in the way... he couldn't take the risk of the mutt making noise.
"A moment." The large man stated, before getting down on one knee and slinging the dog around. Before it could make any noise whatsoever, he brought the dog into a firm chokehold, and thanks to Braunds unnatural strength, the dogs neck would snap with a wet click. Now that the dog was confirmed to be deceased, he took the dog by the two front paws, and stood, looking at the two people again. "It's not safe here, kid." Braund grumbled in a stern manner, as if she were his daughter. He gave Maria another look as well, a glare about him as he searched them with his eyes. Innocents, though they had seen better days... especially the skinnier lass that was missing an ear. But he gave a sigh... looking at both the bear trap, and the dead dog. With a hefty lift of his arm, he threw the dog in their direction, the corpse landing right in front of them.
"I don't know whats out there, but if you move, you'll probably get butchered. Best bet..." Braund wasted no time in explanations, nodding in the direction he came from. "There's a cabin in the woods just that way, my place. You'll be safer there." He dipped down with the bear trap he had slung over his shoulder, and would begin a careful process of prying the trap open, and setting it up. Hopefully, whatever had mauled those dogs was already gone... but if not, then this would potentially make it an easy kill.

Ellie stared at him with a blank visage, backing away when the dog body was thrown near them, and hiding behind Maria like a scared girl when the trap was reset. She was still faking being a tortured captive, best to do so until needed to act otherwise, after all it made them under estimate and pity her, good enough for survival. Speaking of which the cabin he mentioned would be a lot more comfortable than where she was heading, but Braund was still such an enigma to her that she didn’t want to do it just yet.
“Why should I trust you? I have a place just as safe...” she mentioned weakly, not really caring about Maria’s feelings about the whole situation. She would either help her survive or be dead weight, so her decision here would her fate, should she leave or should she stay? She didn’t know, but the corpse in front of them was just disgustingly twitching still that she couldn’t think clearly.

Braund huffed as he was making sure the metallic rod that made sure the trap would spring when stepped on would come off, causing the trap to snap shut. He turned his head and stared Ellie down, but with a sigh, it would soften and he turned to face her whilst remaining crouched. "Then go." Braund grumbled, giving her one last look before returning to the trap, passing a glance at Maria as he turned back around. "Take the girl with you." He said in passing as his attention returned to the trap, covering it lightly with dirt and leaves.

Somewhere
With a wet click, the trickle of light became a stream. Unbidden, the parasite pressed on, working its way up the host’s lungs, closer to the freedom it institutionally craved. Already, its hooks were changing, bent and stretched into shapes beyond its natural state, an amalgamation of legs and digits alike, the vestigial remnants of hosts long since passed. The Court had grown careless in the spread of their red gifts, or perhaps they never truly understood the consequences in the first place. Oh, they had foreseen the buzzing swarms that fed upon their bodies, and the warped beasts that lived among them. It was what was within those beasts that brought the new strain, insidious carries of an affliction beyond their control.
As the thing that was once a hookworm burst from the wound’s edge, one final creature was absorbed by the ascendant bloodsucker: that of a primal feline.
Maria:
She couldn’t have said it better herself. This hunter clearly had a goal in mind, one that would brook no interference, room for error, or dead weight. For the moment, that was all the two of them were to him.
“Come, let’s get out of here.” Maria cast an eye to Ellie, and, with a tilt of her head, motioned for her to lead the way.

The man finished setting the trap down, as evidenced by a loud click of metal and spring now tightly fitted together through force. The daunting, sensitive trap would no doubt snare or crush anything that dared to come into contact with the metal plate. His eyes returned to the dog, and back to the other two. They must've been through a lot, he thought to himself as he noticed their weak frames and the like. Then, he remembered his broth at his hovel! Perhaps the large man could provide a bowl to these two before they left. Not to mention that the trap was within walking distance, so if anything had been caught, he'd surely hear it and come to catch it.
"No." Braund said as he grabbed the paws of the dog, sliding it in front of the trap in close proximity, and as he did so, he would rise to greet the two. "I have a home not far from here, not safe for you two to go wandering back in your state. I must return there anyways..." He looked down at the dog, shaking his head at it with mild irritation. He would not catch the beast today, but whatever it was, he'd catch it before it would do any harm to anyone else. "-For I have a broth over a fire, and I'd rather share it to those that seem famished. But if you aren't bothered, I'll make my own way." Braund nodded at Ellie in particular, before he waved them off in case they were to take their leave.

Like a coin the hunter flipped feelings, offering a bed, broth...food, something at the mention of made Ellie’s stomach growl loud enough to be confused for another wild animal. She didn’t blush but she stared down at her stomach in discomfort, the promise of food and a bed now overpowering her want to flee. Not wanting to treck so far for less, it won Ellie over for the moment, at least until they healed enough to head to her own special place.
“F-fine...lead the way. I’m hungry.” She said shortly, looking to Maria with a sorry look as she fell into temptation, walking towards Braund as she waited for him to lead them back to his place.

Maria:
Small wonder the girl had been captured. Despite this flagrant lack of caution, following the hunter appeared to be their best option. "Lead the way".
