/Sicherlein/
She blinked blankly at the man, her mind whirring and churning, "Cross..? I have not heard of that him before." She stated simply with a frown, her brows furrowing. Sicherlein shook her head and tried to touch her face but hunching was painful and her arms were shackled just enough to hold her from that basest need. She felt like an animal in a cage.
Limply, she pointed to those letters on the table arranged beside her equipment. "I sign off my letters directly to Oscalleon, delivered through the carriage. He is the only one who thought to give me mercy amongst his kin." she explained...

Meriwether's expression turned doubtful. How could she not know the man that had left her room just moments earlier? Maybe she wasn't being as honest as he thought.
"You don't know 'im? The tall fellow with the bird-mask, wears rats all on him?" He bent to rest the clay pitcher on the ground before rising to investigate the letters, rather bravely, considering he never learned to read.
"What sort of mercy did that Oscalleon give you?"

/The Letters/
Stacked haphazardly, were three folded papers; sealed with a black ink, a raven with its arms outstretched were molded onto the wax, no doubt by means of a stamp. It seemed these letters were meant to be sent out sometime soon, or perhaps received and unopened yet. Two had a circle rather grandly designed in ink on the papyrus, above the seal. The last had no inkish marking.
/Sicherlein/
"I haven't, no..." She admitted futilely as she rang a finger along the edge of the iron cup, before taking one final drink, draining it at last. "... Oscalleon sent me here, during my trial on account of... Well, more murders." Sicherlein shifted in her seat, "B-but I was cleared of those! And they were from another demesne so... They do not count here. I was to watch over Lekalis and report his actions, act if he looked ambitious, until the rest of the House was satisfied." She shrugged, "It was supposed to give me some freedom." Sicherlein rattled the chains lightly, emphatically.

Meriwether's brows rose.
"More murders? Zickerlein, by the gods--" He began, incredulous, before sighing and determining that that was a problem for another day and another court. The matter now was to prevent more murders.
"...How long were you s'posed to do that until you were free?" He queried further, lifting the letters with some evident distaste. He unsheathed his dagger and made to cut through the wax...
"What's in these letters?"

The wax was frightfully hard to cut... Indeed, after trying to cut one of the letters prescribed with a circle, the paper ended up tearing first.
/Sicherlein/
"Until the other fat cats in the House were happy, as I said." Sicherlein huffed, watching Meriwether with scrutiny. She wasn't particularly fond of him poking around, but if it got him satisfied sooner, left her alone...
... She supposed she didn't what'd happen then. It wasn't particularly settling at anyrate. Sicherlein watched him cut open the wax, "I do not know... I haven't read them yet." She watched the papers get torn; suppressing a small laugh, she cleared her throat and raised a finger, "You must heat up your dagger first. It is more like glue than wax."

"Fah. What a pain." Meriwether muttered, running a hand again through his hair. He considered himself lucky that he never had to bother with letters before.
"What was supposed to make 'em happy? Just Lekalis and his wife being dead?" He frowned as he held the blade over a candle, watching it impatiently; it was a sinister plot.
"D'you have any idea what's in them? Could you take a guess...?"

"They wanted to be at ease... Make sure that Lekalis wasn't growing into a threat." Sicherlein explained matter-of-factly. A rather devil-may-care attitude in her still sharp accent, "I had last told Oscalleon that Lekalis was being rather... Open with his relationship with a certain Tilly, and another Doctor; Florence. If I had to guess, there are probably orders on what I should do about it, held within." She nodded to the letters again, watching Meriwether's dagger with quiet amusement.

Meriwether watched her warily, and then glanced to the dagger again. Feeling that the metal had been sufficiently heated, he made again, with greater care to further not tear the paper, to slide through the wax.
"How come you didn't open 'em?"

/The Letters/
The Wax was tough, and it took some time to cut through just one letter. The one that had a slight tear. Thankfully, as the heated dagger cut through the wax and the letter was peeled open, it seemed the contents within were rather undisturbed.
Within was a veritable mess of squiggles and shapes; some seemed to be of an entirely structure than the typical scriptures Meriwether may have seen before.
At the bottom, was the exquisitely and rather obnoxiously designed 'O.'

/Sicherlein/
She cocked her head to one side as she watched Meriwether open the letter. She couldn't help but feel a bit violated... There was some small modicum of scandal between herself and Oscalleon. These letters were rather personal, after all; it was the one true source of information to her homeland. "I'd only just recieved the letters, Merivesser. I... also like to read them in privacy." She glanced down quietly, indignantly. It was a shamefully civil pursuit.

Meriwether shot her a sympathetic look, "Least it's me and not some other guard?" He tried to amend, frowning at the script written out before him.
"And we're only really worried about the, ehm... murder-plot. Nobody else has to know what's in it 'sides that." He shrugged and drew closer to Sicherlein, holding the letter out for her to read,
"Could you read this out loud to me? What's it say?"

"What makes you different, hmm?" She rebuked saltily as she quirked a frown at the boy as he approached, watching the letter draw closer, she listened distantly with a nod. She stole away the letter as soon as she could and unfolded it, reading it with a slightly risen brow. It had been awhile, and she was desperate for some good news. "O-oh..." Sicherlein frowned fully, disappointed. Bitterness tugged at her lips and she sighed heavily, offering a half-way apologetic smirk to the boy, "... He wants me to stay out of it... Until more Ravens-- Erh, a term for people like me; working for the Gunsches, doing their dirty work, gathering knowledge. Until more of those people arrive." She explained as she set aside the letter, her eyes still lingering on it.
Of course there was more, but it was hardly encouraging. "They don't think I can handle the current situation..." She huffed, her features relaxing again as she slowly made to lie down, "... I suppose they were right."

Meriwether shook his head and plucked up the letter again, holding it in two hands as he brought it closer to her again, "I want you to read it out loud." He said again, but with a glance to the door, contemplating finding someone more honest to read the letter to him...
"The whole thing, I mean. Word for word."

/Lekalis/ The Ex-Lord squinted with scrutiny as the apparent Audrey spoke. He rose a brow at the words spoken, though he watched Adeney's hand lightly touch upon the arm of this experiment; curiosity arose for the Crowgazer's comrade, surpassing the resurrected Silvant for a moment. The girl meant more to this one, he could see it in his measured tone, the lean. As if she were a small child, a curious pet. But still, the moment passed as he set his eyes back on Audrey with a nod; Lekalis tapped the leather bindings, looking to Florence, "If she can learn, if she can remember..." Lekalis looked Audrey head to toe for any irregularities, as if a pattern might show itself false, "... We'll need to be careful. An elephant may fear the spears that poked it when it was weak, or it may stampede, trampling everyone, and everything." He set his gaze onto Florence, a flicker of firelight illuminated his inkish eyes. "The last thing we need right now is a potential slip." His lips curled into a delighted smile all the same, looking back to Silvant. "We're responsible for the well-being of this soul. Crow or not... Nothing deserves to be lashed down like this, can we remove its bindings? Get this... Audrey a meal? Bathe her, perhaps?" "I take it you're no magician, Adeney?" He smirked as he shook his head, "... To think all those gods and spirits that play with darkness and light, may well partake in sciences such as this?" His features sombered some, a level of distrust in Lekalis' eyes as he seemed to fully register Adeney's presence. "Perhaps it's all just a variable not yet calculated." The doctor squinted at Lekalis for a brief moment, though his face soon softened. He was pale, his brow beaded with sweat along with spots of the girl's blood. Looking down to Silvant, he noted that she was no kind of 'elephant'. Probably she lacked the strength to do much of anything, let alone attack any of them.
"The restraints are for her own protection." Adeney responded eagerly and with a stern look, though he lowered his eyes to her again and began to undo her straps nonetheless. He made sure to cloak her in the sheet once all of her bindings were free, for her decency as well as her warmth.
"Are you hungry?" Looking for an answer in Silvant's face, he noticed instead that she seemed lost. It would take some adjustment, he thought, before she would appreciate being alive again.

"Find someone else then." She huffed with a scowl as she shut her eyes. Her good hand rose to touch her face but, again, rattled hopelessly against the chains. She grunted in annoyance, popping an eye open to leer at Meriwether, "Unless you mean to torture me, I'll not read it to you, boy."

Meriwether quirked a frown and quite pointedly stowed the letter into a pocket of his, folding it carefully. He strolled back to the table and began to collect the other letters as well.
His eyes passed over the various vials and things there.
"What're those?" He asked, next, pointed to the glassware as though it wasn't obvious...
---
Audrey's eyes closed as she considered the question.
"Water...?" She asked, hopefully, looking between the three, and then about the room as though she could find small pools of morning dew to drink from... Her throat felt rough.
---
Florence hummed thoughtfully as she eyed the living corpse with intrigue, head cocking in a way that was almost comically corvine. She supposed she seemed... manageable enough.
"The straps were due to the fact that the serum used to prepare the corpse for transmission often caused agitation and hyper-aggression in its subjects..." As the straps were loosened, she made to tilt Audrey up, whose eyes went wide and wild with surprise and anxiety at her newfound pose. "...But this one showed no sign of aggression. Yes, I believe that... baths, and sustenance will benefit the subject. It will increase the accuracy of our research."
She held her hand on Audrey's shoulder to support her upwards as she looked to Lekalis and Adeney,
"Do one of you have a canteen with you that she may drink?"
