Backstory Synopsis:
Alfonse is the son of a former conquistador who fought in the mercenary wars against Italy. On his return, he started a smithy in central Spain, in the town of Toledo. Much to his shame, his son was born lame, missing his right arm. The man raised Alfonse as best he could, telling him tales of knights slaying fearsome dragons and marrying beautiful Spanish maidens in the process. Alfonse was enchanted with these tales and always wanted to join this pantheon of heroes, but was unable due to his missing arm. For years he toiled in the smithy alongside his father but never forgetting his dreams. Alfonse decided that he would not allow his missing arm to stop him from becoming a true hero, one worthy of a bedtime story.
Full Backstory:
Born in the central Spanish province of La Mancha, in the city of Toledo, Alfonse never had an easy life. Born with one arm missing, he was declared 'cursed' by a few of his more superstitious neighborhoods, and suffered their scorn accordingly. Despite his devoutness, he found himself often uneasy in the company of the clergy who often seemed more bent on judging him for his physical flaws than the content of his soul. Instead Alfonse found his place by his father's side at the forge, hammering lumps of metal into tools or on occasion, weapons. But Alfonse was always hungry for more than what his father's smithy could offer, he wanted to become a hero much like those his father spoke about, like La Cava and El Campeador, to fight against the enemies of Spain and claim new lands for his homelands. But with one arm his options for glory seemed limited. For years he honed his smith's craft, becoming a competent metalworker in his own right. At some point, stories began to drift through, stories of a far away village, one beset by foul monsters that guarded an ancient treasure. They claimed a whole castle of gold waited somewhere out there in that vast unexplored land, teeming with strange beasts that could tear a man's arms off before he'd so much as drawn his sword. Alfonse, having already been bereft of one arm he figured he had little enough to lose. His father was aghast when informed of his son's plans and forbid him to leave, but Alfonse would not be stopped. Weeks of quarrelling and at last the elder man relented, and as a sign of good faith gifted his son his former cuiriass, a fine piece of metalwork, and made Alfonse swear that he would return someday with tales of his adventures. Alfonse made solemn oath, and so with that packed what he thought he would need and set forth to the mysterious land he had heard spoken of only in rumours, guided by whispers and dreams of heroism.
Misc. Notes: (Special items, notable scars, scents, how they walk, or talk, etc.)
Alfonse is missing his right arm, and so has a very slightly lopsided gait due to this. He has a distinctive Spanish accent.
