Quirks:
Professional: Martial training has a solution to everything. Fight methodically, and in formation.
Disciplined: No drinking, no gambling, no leisure. There is work to be done, and standards to maintain.
Paid Loyalty: One’s utter loyalty bound to a simple piece of paper and a sum of gold. If only human nature were this easy.
Selfish: "It's better them than me."
Disconnected: Socially isolated, and simply refuses to form relationships. In fact he abhors the very thought of it.
Thanatophobia: The fear of loss.
Avarice: The second coin is involved, all other factors do not matter. Including self preservation.
Cynical Arrogance: Thinks very low of his peers. Even those who are his superiors.
Backstory Synopsis: A nobleman’s son who left his military life to pursue a career as a mercenary.
Full Backstory:
Glenanne was born into a life of nobility. With a father who wanted an heir that held an esteemed military career. Which had lead to a majority of his youth under a strict training regimen. Instilling within him a set of martial skills, physical endurance, and ironically a more boorish demeanor. Ending with him frequently running off to hang around the unsavory hooligans within his hometown. Biding his time as simple muscle for the local youth groups (a more polite term for street gangs.)
It wasn’t until he reached the age of eighteen that he was finally sent off into military service. Undergoing six grueling years of endless campaigns in wars that he cared little for. It was at that point he decided to desert from his regiment. Taking with him as much armor he could carry, and a pollaxe. Before embarking on a career that he decided instead of having it chosen for him. Taking on a life as a mercenary. Often being hired off by brigand clans to reap the spoils from the local populations.
Glenanne maintained a professional demeanor as a mercenary. His loyalty bound to a simple contract that had been passed down from one loathsome individual to another. Often seeing the worst that humanity had to offer, never questioning the nature of his employers. To him, loyalty is a rare commodity. A commodity that he holds a monopoly on.
Now he finds his contract in the hands of a peculiar individual. With the prospects of facing otherworldly horrors as the job description. These notions did not matter to him. For his demeanor could be summed up in his own words.
“You pay, I kill. That’s the deal.”
Misc. Notes: Speaks with a gutteral low english accent.
-Skills & Equipment
Weapons: Bill, belt dagger, wrist buckler, two flintlock pistols.
Armor: A set of layers consisting of a gambeson, chainmail, brigandine. With a set of plate pauldrons and a cuirass.
Other gear: A small satchel full of maps, bounty posters, and contracts.
Strengths: Glenanne tends to deal with things methodically. Believing that every encounter could be dealt with using pragmatism and excellent swordsmanship. Often taking things slow to figure out his advantages and disadvantages before engaging with a sense of systematic brute force, fighting pragmatically to maintain an unfair advantage.
Weaknesses: Unfortunately after years of enduring violence throughout his life, Glenanne has become very cynical and narrow minded. With the only driving factor being his own survival and monetary gain. This has lead to him becoming very disconnected from those around him, thinking very low of his peers. Often too willing to put others in harms way with reckless abandon in order to fulfill a job or for his own benefit.
Beneath all that grit and armor lies a man who is simply afraid of others. Afraid of experiencing the feeling of love or endure the pain of loss. Nor does he wish to reciprocate those feelings and deal with the pressure of being the cause of grief. Which has lead to himself becoming very isolated and jaded towards others. For he will gain neither in that respect.
