Valeria (“Vengeance”)
Class: Paladin (Hellion/Crusader)
Resolve level: 1
Current gold: 1000 gp
Appearance
- Age: 26
- Sex: Female
- Physical Description: Roughly 6'3 and 190 pounds of muscle. Not the ideal opponent for arm wrestling, to be sure. Dark red hair, a scar across the bridge of her nose, and a myriad of faded white tattoos on her upper arms and chest. Most of them look like constellations or are snippets of text from religious scripture. Beautiful in a sort of intimidating way; she’s usually got a stony facial expression. Has a few rogue braids to tame her hair. Fairly tan since she comes from a sunny town and the clergy there had a fondness for growing things in a garden behind the temple.
- Attire: She often keeps on her plate mail with a sash, even when in the hamlet. She takes her job very seriously. If she isn’t in uniform, she still wears clothes that are mildly formal, but not enough to limit movement should she be suddenly called upon. Similar to equestrian wear. Tall boots, breeches, long sleeved blouses (sometimes with a vest
because apparently she is Will Turner). She can be a little cagey when not around her usual gear, since the hamlet is so close to monster infested areas.
Biography
Quirks:
+ Deadly, unholy slayer, warrior of light
- Ruminator, fear of eldritch, anemic, clumsy
Backstory Synopsis:
A warrior of the Light from humble beginnings, dedicated to helping clear temples of unholy company. She’s never seen anything as corrupt as the estate—and is fairly intimidated, though she’d never admit it—but she’s determined it can be exorcised like anywhere else.
Full Backstory:
After being left on temple steps by a mother that could not provide for a child, Valeria was raised by a kind elderly clergy. She’s hardly a child anymore, but they still view her fondly as their young ward. The town the temple belonged to was rural and the temple itself served as a sort of unorthodox medical center. Instead of fighting for righteous cause or evangelizing, the clergy spent most of its time tending to townsfolk or toiling in their expansive garden (where most of their medicinal components came from). Valeria was always concerned about the protection of her home since there were no crusaders in the region to guard it, and took it upon herself to be its guardian. Valeria ended up leaving the temple after many years to travel to others that needed help dealing with unholy or monstrous creatures, though she still visits home from time to time to ensure all is well. Her ferocity in battle is what earned her the nickname Vengeance. She still views other crusaders as sort of mythical heroes (to a bit of a fault) since she did not grow up around them and hopes they’ll share their wisdom and expertise while she stays in the hamlet.
The estate is proving to look far more dangerous than any job she’s taken on before, and she’s intimidated after having suffered some bitter defeats in the past at the hands of eldritch creatures. It isn’t enough to stop her from trying, though. She intends to bring payment from the heir home to her makeshift family.
Pros: Courageous, loyal, authoritative presence makes her a born leader, generally kind
Cons: Can come off as distant or stern, not very charismatic in day to day life, an absolute disaster at detecting traps, stubborn, not very mobile in battle due to heavy equipment, easily unnerved by eldritch enemies in particular which makes her wary around occultists
