Andy
Resolve level: Heretical Inquisitor, 1
-Appearance
Age: Mid 20's
Sex: Androgynous presenting
Physical Description: Andy wears the furs of a hunter over monkish robes, disguising the slight form beneath. Barely topping five and a half feet, their hands are weathered from the bowstring, their arms taught and strong from the pull. Yet, for all that would suggest a warrior, their frame is not built for armor, and try though they might to clean them, there are always flecks of ink under their fingernails. Their short black hair is more of a fuzz, evidence of a full shave not too long ago, which crowns a face untouched by hard work or time.
Attire: Andy wears clerical robes lined with fur, though they carry no holy symbol openly as an apparent follower of the light would normally. Underneath their hooded cowl is a small fetish handcrafted from finger bones, threaded through with a rough hemp. Their every worldly belonging fit in a set of leather bags clearly meant to be attached to a horse, though they have none by their side. Instead, their companion is approximately two feet long, hangs from a leather strap, and propels crossbow bolts at upwards of 200 pounds of force.
-Biography
Quirks:
+Polyglot: "Wisdom and Heresy both know no boundaries of culture or tongue. Neither shall I."
+"Helping Hands": "Everyone hears voices. On occasion mine have something useful to say."
-Curious: "I'm just going to give this a quick read. What could be the harm?"
-Ecstaddict: "These herbs are used in trials, in rituals, to sharpen the soul for the hunt. I just happen to know how to mix them for a more... enlightening experience."
Backstory Synopsis: A heretical Inquisitor in the Hamlet searching for their lost master.
Full Backstory:
Taken into the Church of Light at an early age, Andy was to be trained as a Vestal warrior-priest. However, they proved to have little interest or aptitude for Light magic or soldiering, and as such were relegated to the archives. They devoured book after book, and after getting into a theological debate with a visiting cleric, were recommended to a more... unorthodox sect. Thus began Andy's tutelage under Master Hague, an Inquisitor for the Light. Rather than steel and armor, Andy was trained with a crossbow as one might train a hunter. Instead of theological texts, they were given the task of familiarizing themselves with the ways of heretics and the horrors they bring into the world.
This shift in their education was a sore mistake. Far from finding discipline and zeal in the training, Andy instead found a taste for the Dark, devouring tome after tome of forbidden knowledge under the guise of research. Not caring what his ward got up to, Hague was absent during most of Andy's formative years, off on various hunts. While he was gone, Andy had the run of his home, and more importantly, the library. It was on during such an absence that Andy finally found the courage in the the drugs used by the Inquisitors to attempt some of the magics detailed in the tomes. The result? Their very first Dark spell, an out of body experience in which they stared into the great and starry Beyond, and the eternal enimity of the Church should they be found to have such knowledge.
For a time, all was peaceful. Hague would hunt, and Andy would learn, quietly, in the hours between. Eventually, Hague determined it was time to start bringing them on their hunts, though they were never forced to resort to their magics during their purges. However, on one particularly dangerous hunt, Andy was not taken along. It has been nearly a month since Hague's failure to return from that hunt, and the Church was beginning to ask the wrong sorts of questions about his collection. With the looming threat of a growing faction in the Church that would gladly see the Inquisitors slain on principle, Andy determined that they had to find their master, for he acted no only as a source of forbidden knowledge, but as a shield from church oversight. So, they found their way to the Hamlet, and they will either find their master or his bones.
Misc. Notes: Long sleeves that hide dark runes carved in old scar tissue. Addicted to the ceremonial euphorics used by their order, often abuses them to the point of hallucinations. Withdrawal symptoms include full-body itching, paranoia, and lack of appetite. Usually dehydrated. Takes finger bones as trophies to add to their fetish, believes it enhances their powers.
-Skills & Equipment
Weapons: Skinning knife, Light Crossbow, a single simple Dark spell that cause light to dim as the shadows take form and lash out.
Armor: Clerical vestments, furs
Other gear: "Verdant Light" hallucinogen, materials for crafting more, weathered wooden pipe, notebook full of dark secrets
Strengths: A decent shot, able to decipher a large number of languages, both modern and ancient. Knowledgeable of the tools and writings of heretical cultists.
Weaknesses: Fairly useless in melee combat, scrawnier than they look, a touch overconfident, morbidly fascinated with the occult.
