"I was... in the foothills of the mountains. It was not extremely far from Venice." Florence's gaze went distant in concentration as she seemed to trace a map with her eyes, "Perhaps within a week's travel. Unless you are speaking of the city Firienze. Then it is much further."
She drank her wine.
"I would hope you did not encounter any plagues in Venice."

[Fade to black?]
/Lekalis/
He shook his head and swirled the wine with some idle attention from his eyes, a bit of a morbid turn of topic but fair, "Nay, I'd only heard of it in history and after I'd left... Reckon I'd have seen you sooner if there were?" He asked somberly, raising a brow,
"I seem to remember you mentioning that village was your first forray in doctoring proper; think you'd have been sent to a proper city if it was dire enough?" He pondered with a sigh as he made a small 'oh' noise of surprise, as his wine suddenly spilled over the lip. Nothing major, but he haww'd in dismay as he licked the wine from the side of the glass and ceased his playing. Letting his eyes rest on Florence more pointedly as he took another draft of wine.

"I would be doubtful." Florence looked up drowsily to the ceiling; she did not swirl her wine so much as let it stagnate between sips. But the pool of wine in the glass gradually decreased.
She continued to drone on, "Most of my fellow students were men; consequently, I was typically more entrusted with the care of the female sphere: the treatment of women, children and infants. I would usually be assigned to be a personal doctor for sick children, as was the case for Luca."

He nodded understandably, "Aye... I'd tried to help my people as best I could with what I learned when I returned. Many were disposed against my intervention, particularly with children." He chuckled awkwardly with a shrug, "Usually I listened, but... Some were clearly in over their heads." He sighed as he watched Florence tilt her head back, admiring the subtle tenses in her throat with some awe.
"You're a wonderful doctore--" He mimed her Italian infllections, "-- I... Honestly feel like I'm holding you back sometimes. A hostage to my whimsy." He laughed, but it was shallow and downtrodden as he looked to his empty wine glass. "I should let you get back to Adeney, you mentioned wanting to interview him..?"

"That would be unwise. I am inebriated and drowsy." Florence nodded, quietly accepting the compliment with another sip of her wine. She believed she would sleep once they had finished their celebrations.
"And I do not know if Doctor Mercier wishes to take part in our research. If he does, he must seek me out."

He smiled, and made to scoot off the table, raising a brow at her as he looked to his wine glass then to Florence. He waggled the crystal in the moonlight with a small chuckle, "Fair point..." He giggled again and set the glass down as he saw to collecting up his cloak. His night wasn't over yet... Responsibilities and...
... His mind went blank as he stared at Florence longingly, he let go of a sad sigh he'd been holding the entire night as he rubbed his hands together and made to fish something out of his satchel. "... Will you be staying here? I intend to pay for this room for a month and more tonight. It'd be good to have someone using it."

"I shall stay here if you would like me to. Otherwise I would be sleeping in the archives." Florence leaned in, curious as to what else he held in his satchel and what he was retrieving. She propped herself up on one bare elbow.
"What will you do for the rest of this night?"

He sighed, pulling out a coin purse; bouncing it in his palm as he looked to Florence with a risen brow, smirking then... pausing as he pondered. She'd be brilliant for the task ahead, if she'd want. "I need to obtain some foodstuffs for Tilly and I... Would you care to join me?"

"Oh, yes. I shall." Florence stood, and staggered a touch; the chair wobbled unsteadily before it safely found its feet.
Her fingers made for the mask clumsily, already making to hold it up to her face. "What has she requested?"

"You know, she was a bit hesitant... she doesn't like spending money..." He chuckled again, maybe from the inquiry but most definitely from her motions; he moved ambitiously fast towards her, but tripped over his foot and fell for her in a more literal manner, he shouted a warning but it was lost as he made to cradle her head before they hit the ground...

Florence was quite good at falling over, and she did so without contest. Thankfully he held her head, as she still had the good sense to hold out her mask while also bracing her hand against Lekalis to prevent him from crushing her.
On the ground, she opened her eyes with a wince,
"Are you well?"

Little more than a groan escaped Lekalis' throat before he chuckled and shook his head with a smile, He gave out a sigh and struggled to get a breath as he pushed aside the nearby chair and fell on his back beside Florence, "... I think I got a splinter." He muttered in a grossly thick accent as he slowly pulled away his hand from the back of Florence's head, the sharp pain dragged into the back of his hand as he held up his left hand to show that, indeed, a small shard of wood was poking out of his hand. It looked, thankfully, shallow. "Why? Are you well?" He mimicked with a groan as he tried to roll himself to sit upright against the nearby wall with the window.

Florence sat up, too, squinting at the splinter in his hand as if it were a hated enemy.
"Yes, I am. Also, be still."
She reached for his hand, slowly, and held it as close as she could manage. Then, she made to deftly pluck out the dastardly finger between the nails of her thumb and index finger, provided he did not struggle or flinch away.

Thankfully, the wine dampened most of the pain of release as the splinter was pulled out. He still gave a small 'oof' of pain as he frowned and looked at the wounded hand with a sigh, wagging it in the air, he rose a brow at Florence and refrained from rubbing the wound, "Is that all..? Or shall we apply a tourniquet? Practice your capacity to saw off an arm, eh?" He chuckled and made to reach out for her mask, cocking his head to one side while beckoning her over with his other hand. "Come, come, I'll help you with your mask."

"A tourniquet? For a splinter?" Florence's expression mirrored her confusion for all the moments it remained unmasked, before she slid the beak upwards and scooted forward for Lekalis to fasten the bindings.
"I would never dare to drink liquor before performing an operation. It is too dangerous."
