Biography

Backstory Synopsis: Abandoned by his parents at an early age, he was raised in a dirty, poor orphanage; said orphanage was burned down to the ground by an arsonist when he was 16. Taken into a band of cutthroats, he would stay among them for several years, until he was betrayed in a highway robbery when he was 21. As he thought his life was over, a wandering congregation of vestals recovered him from the bloody remains of the caravan and rescued him. Owing his life to the Light, he joined the order of the Iron Skull, made entirely out of repentant men. Thrown into the crusades, he applied his knowledge in war to this new battlefield, surviving long enough to see himself sent into the Darkest Estate as punishment for actions during the French-Italian wars.
Full Backstory: Find out in the roleplay - type away, folks!
Misc. Notes: His face clearly shows the marks of war. Several slice scars are present onto his face, some deeper than others; although most of these are present on his right cheek and forehead. His right eye is covered by an eye patch after he lost it during an assault on a Saracen stronghold, and a part of his neck is badly burned. He speaks in a very proud and noble-like manner, proud of his cultural heritage. Despite spending years away from the actual army, he still walks very much like a soldier.
Skills & Equipment
Weapons: A Rapier and a Nockgun.
-The rapier, although much lighter than other type of swords, still proves its own in combat, requiring more finesse than brute force to operate; mastering its use is considered an art among swordsmen. What it lacks in power and momentum, it makes up in its piercing capacity.
-Despite its imposing sight, the nockgun isn't the most practical weapon to wield; the recoil is high enough to dislocate the shoulder of a careless user, the chances of misfire are quite high, and it tends to malfunction in humid environments. On top of all this, the time taken to reload is nothing short of lethargic. Still, it has more control than a blunderbuss, while remaining useful in clearing out a tight formation of enemies or reducing one to bloody bits up close.
Armor:A half-plate armor, ornamented with several depictions of skulls (reference to his order).
Other gear: A huge hat, ornamented with two white feathers and one red feather, representing his years of service in the Crusade. Two seals hang from his breastplate,
Strengths: A veteran of many battles, Nicholas applies force in most situations, seeing strength as a way to attain victory in many fields. He is expert at routing out bandits, knowing of their techniques as he used to be one of them before becoming a knight. Although he grows wary of the constant slaughter he has been through, he knows that his fellow man is just that; an adversary with obvious weaknesses. Proud of his Anglo-Saxon heritage, he fights with ferocity and determination.
Weaknesses: His first foray into the Ruins of the Darkest Estate hit him like a hammer; he realized that he was not prepared against the odds he and his companions faced. His expertise against humans proved more than ineffective against the unholy abominations, and his shattered pride left him as a husk of his self for months. His lack of finesse in approaching situations also used to brings him a lot of trouble when dealing with locals; although this has somewhat lessened to an extent, he is still easily irritable and hard to work with. Adding to all of this, he has no knowledge whatsoever of any Light miracles like some other crusaders do.
